Thrifting and Goat Cheese!

We four girls (same group that went to the island) had such a good time Thursday. We spent an entire day shopping, eating, shopping, eating, etc., etc. Yep, that was pretty much the order of things.

We hit three thrift stores in North Alabama, had lunch at Belle Chèvre, hit another store and finished the day off wth Krispie Kreme’s new original creme filled doughnut.  Stay with me now…I’m gonna take through our adventurous day!

Tasia Malakasis, a native of Alabama opened this cheese shop in Elkmont after working in the restaurant business in New York City.  Her story is fascinating and too much to paraphrase here so I’m providing the link to an article written about her below.  The second link is the creamery’s official website.

Belle Chevre

This sweet lady really took care of us.  We tasted coffee cream cheese, fig ice cream, cheese cake and much more (my favorite was the honey cream cheese). All made with their delicious goat cheese.

We shared two sandwiches (pimento and BLT), and pimento fondue.  It was all delicious and we couldn’t decide which was our favorite.

We went to three of the four thrift stores before we headed to Elkmont.  Value Village, Salvation Army and Downtown Mission stores are in Huntsville, Alabama. Something was purchased at each store!

After we ate, we headed southwest to Madison and the fourth thrift store, Style Encore.  It is a sister store (and adjacent) to Plato’s Closet but caters to a slightly older clientele.  If you aren’t familiar with Plato’s Closet; it is a consignment store that only accepts mid to higher priced designer goods in excellent condition.  Of course, they are not going to have bottom prices but you will typically pay 1/3 of the price of designer items such as Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Coach and Stuart Weitzman. I plan to be a repeat customer there (thanks @Laureninneutral for the recommendation)!

There are two locations of Style Encore in Alabama.  The other one is in the Inverness area of Birmingham.

Then….the major coup of the day (thanks to Vicky) was our stop for KK doughnuts.  The new creme filled doughnut is ammmmaaazzziinngg! I only tried the vanilla but I’m sure the chocolate is just as awesome!

With bellies full and purses (a little) lighter, we headed home.  Huntsville, Elkmont and Madison…thank you for a very enjoyable Girls’ Day Out!

July 4 will be here soon.  Check out these cute and afforable tops to wear to your patriotic celebrations!
