Want a Great Weekend Getaway? Plan a Fall Trip To Blue Ridge Georgia

These girls and I have been traveling together at least once a year for 15 plus years.  We head to an island every summer and have just begun taking a mountain trip in the fall. Last October we went to Dillard, Georgia and this past weekend to Blue Ridge, Georgia.

We took a slight detour on the way north, to Christmas at Eddie’s in Henagar, Alabama.  Oh my!  I’ve never seen so many decorated Christmas trees in my life!  Rooms and rooms and rooms with over one hundred trees in every conceivable theme!  If you love Christmas ornaments and holiday decorations, you must visit this place!  Well worth the trip!!!!

Here we are!  Feels like the top of the world! Fire going inside the cabin and outside on the deck.  Trees are absolutely beautiful.


As we were driving to the hiking trail, we passed through the quaint town of Blairsville.  We shopped at a couple of nice boutiques.  I’ll be styling a top from the The Pink Flamingo in a day or so.  I love meeting new people!

I would love to say we drove through a large, rushing river, but it was really just a creek.  It was a large creek and it WAS rushing!  Luckily we were in  Denise’s Jeep so no worries!  We girls are wild and crazy! Lol

The trail was awesome and the waterfall beautiful!

All that river fording made us hungry so we stopped at the busiest place we could find.  We knew that meant good eating!!! We were so right!!!  Jim’s Smokin’ Que, yum and yum.  BBQ was wonderful and I’ve never had better sweet potato fries! Flavored and cooked with cinnamon and sugar.  Delish!

You are never going to be hungry vacationing with these girls! Homemade granola parfaits for our last breakfast in the cabin!  

Diane’s homemade Granola

  • 6 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup dry milk powder
  • 1 cup wheat germ 1 1/2 cup almonds or pecans
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  • 1 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries

Mix and pour into 2 very large pans

  • 1/2-1 cup honey        1/2-1 cup milk
  • 1 t honey        1/4-1/2 cup cooking oil (not olive oil)

Warm honey, milk, oil and stir in vanilla, pour over oat mix and stir til coated. Bake about 1 hour stirring every 10-15 min.

Store in airtight container when cool

To make Vicky’s parfait:  layer granola, vanilla yogurt, strawberries and Cool Whip topping.
